Iranian film producer and publisher Ali Moallem has passed away in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Iranian film producer and publisher Ali Moallem has passed away in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Moallem, who was also managing director and editor-in-chief of Donya-ye-Tasvir (Picture World) magazine, died of cardiac arrest in his office in Tehran on Monday.

Moallem, 54, was a graduate of cinema and started Donya-ye-Tasvir magazine 25 years ago, which soon became popular among film fans.

He also produced several films, including ‘Hemlock’, ‘The River’s End’, ‘Marriage, Iranian Style’ and ‘Aal’.

He served as jury member in several local and international film festivals.

The Iranian producer organized the 16th edition of ‘Hafez Celebration’, Iran’s only private ceremony to award the best of TV and cinema annually since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

One of his intended contributions to filmmaking was a movie on Cyrus the Great (580-529 BC), king of Persia and the founder of the Achaemenid Empire. However, the film did not make it past the scriptwriting phase and a book on the film script was published instead.
